Spanish is a language which was born when, after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, Latin was merged with the languages of Goths (No, not the crazy kids in black!) and other barbarian languages. This mixture also originated languages like French and Italian.
I found a quite useful guide at
http://www.studyspanish.com/freesite.htm
The pronunciation guidelines might sound a little bit awkward, because they are too abstract (although there is an oral excercise for each sound, but I was not able to check it...). However, it also marks the difference between Spaniard and Latin AMerican pronounciation
. (Useful for travellers).
There is a tutorial for grammar and one for vocabulary, which I think are rather accurate for begginer, and a guide for verb conjugation.
It also has top ten for idioms (Not very accurate, but gives you a feel of the lanugage) and for reasons to study Spanish! But I guess you don't need that one if you're reading this...?
And here
http://spanish.about.com/od/spanishpronunciation/#more
there is more help on pronuncing different Spanish sounds.
